SMFC, Solihul Model Flying Club is a long established club with a friendly membership of people who really enjoy buying, building and flying radio controlled models.

We fly Electric (mainly fixed wing) and Glider models all year round, usually on Sunday and Wednesday afternoons in a field just to the south-east of Birmingham, but as a number of our members are retired or semi-retired, anytime is a good time to fly. Some of our members enjoy slope soaring and often arrange to go to other flying sites when the weather is favorable. Due to noise restrictions at our flying field we are unable to accommodate any IC models.

The club rents the use of a privately owned field, all members are required to hold a BMFA membership before they are permitted to fly on club grounds (for insurance reasons), and please do contact the club, and make yourself know as and when you arrive at the field. But after this, anyone of any ability is welcome and we will do our best to help novices until they are able to fly solo.

There has recently been a sharp increase in the purchase and use of drones, or multicopters. Whilst SMFC does fly a very limited number of rotary wing craft and certainly does not disallow them. We do not currently have any training facilities, or on site experts who can meaningfully advise newcomers with this type of aircraft. Therefore anyone wishing to fly rotary wing craft, currently and regrettably we can only accept experienced fliers of single or multi-copters. That being said, you are welcome to visit with this in mind.

If you would like to come along to a meet or just know a little bit more, use the form below to contact us, or visit the Solihull Model Flying Club website for other contact details.
